Dear WOW: I’m worried about my garbage piling up on holidays. What should I do? ~ Buried Barry
Dear Buried Barry: The only days WOW man doesn’t pick up are Thanksgiving and Christmas. For all other holidays, service is on regular schedule. When WOW Man takes off for Thanksgiving and Christmas, your garbage collection will fall one day later than normal for the remainder of that week (from the holiday until the following Sunday). If Christmas happens to fall on Saturday or Sunday, you don’t have to worryyour schedule doesn’t change at all!
Dear WOW: The weather is terrible! Should I wait until it clears up to put out my garbage? ~ Windy Wendy
Dear Windy Wendy: Rain, snow, wind…nothing can deter us, so put your stuff out anyway. But here’s a hint: If it’s windy, place light items in the bottom of your recycling bin and use a rock to keep material from blowing away. Also, it doesn’t matter if your recyclables get wet in the rain, so please don’t use plastic grocery bags to separate your materials. Use paper bags instead.
Dear WOW: Where should I put out carts, cans and bins, and what are the weight limits? ~ Flexible Francis
Dear Flexible Francis: Curbside carts, cans and bins must be within four feet of the curb (not in the street!). Cans must be visible from the street and outside of garages, latched gates or enclosures. Weight limits are as follows: 32 gallon can = 60 lbs., 32 gallon cart = 75 lbs., 90 gallon cart = 150 lbs.
Dear WOW: My wife won a totally new set of kitchen appliances on a game show, and we decided to remodel the whole house to match. Our old appliances and fixtures are still in good shape. What should I do? ~ Guy Smiley
Dear Guy Smiley: Congratulations! Many of these items can be taken for disposal or recycling to the WOW Transfer Station, or call us at 503.861.0578 for other options.
Dear WOW: I rarely use packaging and don’t produce much trash. Can WOW come less often? ~ Efficient Ernie
Dear Efficient Ernie: Glad you asked. Every-other-week, monthly, and will call services are available in many areas. Call us for details.
Dear WOW: Our quintuplets big birthday bash left us buried in trash. Our cans are overfilled! ~ Birthday Bash Betty
Dear Birthday Bash Betty: No worries! Please bag up any trash and set it out next to your can/cart on your service day (a per bag fee will apply).
